Distraction Bras

I’ve been rather distracted lately, by all sorts of things (thesis – grumble grumble) but the upside to this is that I have discovered the wonderful almost-instant-gratification-supplying world of bra making. With various corsets all still at toile stage (or waiting for supplies to arrive) I’ve been playing truant with lingerie. And what fun it has been!

This is a master cup block – the beginning of the bra cup pattern, graded to three different sizes.

These bras were drafted and made using instructions from Mark Garbarczyk’s articles which you can find at Foundations Revealed. I chose to work with this fabric as its dirt cheap (R 6 p/m) so I don’t worry about making mistakes and because I wanted to try and gussy up the slightly dull pattern. Not that the pattern is without merit! I’ve been living in mine since I made it and it is the most comfortable bra I have ever worn. Also gives a good shape under clothes.

I did fiddle with the pattern a bit as my first attempt made my feisty puppies dash off in opposite directions instead of proceeding straight ahead like well-trained huskies, but otherwise all went well.

Scarlit’s bra is a variant of the same pattern, made without a mock-up and fitting pretty well aside from a rather tight band. The cup is just divided up into more pieces and has decorative ‘faggoting tape’. Sounds terribly un-PC, but I really love faggoting! When my partner, here after known as Sir G, discovered the word he dashed to his late mom’s sewing box and extracted, complete with ancient instructions, a faggoting fork! How we did laugh;)
